Evolution of the biological parameters from the agricultural soils of Fribourg | Evolution des parametres biologiques des sols agricoles fribourgeois

Biological analyses done during the last 15 years on the 250 sites of the soil monitoring network of Fribourg (FRIBO) are presented with measurements of biomass ATP and soils respiratory activity. A correlation study of the data showed that the biological parameters are strongly related with the land use and the cation exchange capacity (CEC). The biological parameters measured were lesser in the rotated crops soils than in the permanent grassland and the mountain pastures reached the highest values. The same tendency was observed for the CEC in these sites. The evolution of the biological properties of Fribourg's soils was stable during the first 15 years of the study. A statistically based classification scale could be established to detect the sites with deficient biological activity. Low humus content, lack of grassland, acidity, compaction and pastures were problems that were highlighted. Solutions to these problems were proposed to the farmers. The biological parameters seems to be a good diagnostic tool for soil fertility.
