[Growth and placement of root system of apple trees of cultivars "Antey" and "Tellisaare" in connection with their nutrition area]

The root system construction of apple cultivars "Antey" and "Tellisaare" on the semi-dwarf rootstock 54-118 and dwarf rootstock 62-396 in variants of 4 planting schemes: one-row scheme - 4x2m and 4x1m, two-rows scheme - (4+1)x2,4m and three-rows scheme (4+1,5+1,5)x1,25m. The trees root system was 9-years old in the spring of 2000. The greatest unit weight and length of skeleton roots of the rootstock 54-118 was on depth of 10-40cm, of the rootstock 62-396 - 10-50cm, so it reached more deeply. However the root system of dwarf rootstock 62-396 is fragile, therefore the trees, grafted on this rootstock, need a support during all period of orchard exploitation. Roots of the rootstock 54-118 are less fragile. Trees grafted on this rootstock need a support only within the first years after planting in an orchard
