The forecasting of the degree of occurrence of major field crops pests in Vojvodina Province has been regularly reported since 1978. By inspection of soil samples from fields where cereals and sugar beet were grown in 2001, the following average number/square meter was recorded: 3.6 wireworms (Elateridae), 1.4 whitegrubs (Scarabaeidae), 0.13 caterpillars of Scotia spp., 0.086 adults of Zabrus tenebrioides, 3.0 adults of Bothynoderes punctiventris and 0.05 chrysalides of Mamestra spp., Scrobipalpa ocellatella was found at all inspected sugar beet fields, on 20.7% of plants, with 0.44 larvae per plant. The number and injury (about 30-60% of maize plants) of ECB (Ostrinia nubilalis) increased, while the number and injuries of Helicoverpa armigera decreased. Population density of the new corn pest, WCR (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera), was reduced significantly, as well as are of damage.
