Studies of the feline retro viral infections are very important, on one hand in aim to followe mechanisms of immunodepression and oncogenesis. On the other hand feline Retroviridae are similar to human strains inducing aquired immunodeficiency syndrom among which feline leucosis virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) are the most important in feline practice. Immunodeficiency, as the result of depletion and disfunction of immune cells and consenquent disturbance of the production of antibodies and complement system, represent the most frequent and difficult consequence of the FeLV infection. Feline immunodeficiency virus - FIV is very similar to the HIV human immunodeficiency virus. The infection by FIV can be manifested through development of three basic syndromes: progressive immunodeficiency, neurological disturbances and finally, increased frequency of malignant tumors particularly B cell lymphosarcoma.
