Control of acrylamide traces in water treated by polyacrylamide electrolite

In this paper new method of water treatment based on polyarylamide application and analytical method for determination of acrylamide in water have been described. Acrylamide is a monomer by which polymerization the polyacrylamide is being formed that can be used as a flocculant in the treatment of water. The flocculation is a process during which destabilized particles form bigger particles, so called agglomerates (floccules). When flocculants and coagulants are applied the residual concentration of each chemical has to be taken into account. According to the official regulation of SFRY from 1987, about The Hygienic Quality of Drinking Water, the maximal concentration of acrylamide is 0.25 microgram/L. In experimental part of this work the concentration of acrylamide has been determined by High Performance Liquid Chromatography - HPLC method. HPLC method is one of standard , modern and conventional methods for acrylamide detection in water. Beside the overview of analytical methods for acrylamide detection, the environmental impact of acrylamide has been considered.
