The results of some selective breeding programs include sustained low mite population, suppression of mite reproduction, and other heritable traits of the honey bee, have been demostrated. However, continued selection for resistance is required to effectively eliminate the threat of Varroa. The sustainable beekeeping needs that researchers and beekeepers adopt larger scale breeding programs and continue to practice and investigate integrated Varroa management techniques.
