The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of the indolyl-3-butyric acid (IBA) alone or in combination with paclobutrazol (PP 333) on the rooting of shoots of the Ishtara peach rootstock. The growth regulators were used in the MS medium as follows: 1) 0, 0.75 or 1.5 mg/L of IBA; 2) 0.75 mg/L of IBA + 0.06 or 0.12 mg/L of PP 333. Shoots cultivated on the MS medium with 1.5 mg/L of IBA produced the highest number of roots and the longest roots. These roots produced the lowest level of ethylene and CO2. These conditions led also to the lowest level of abscisic acid (ABA) in the shoot base. ABA concentration was indirectly proportional to the number and length of the roots and lowered by the application of IBA or PP 333.
