The findings of research conducted in Odometa in Upper Manya in 1982-84 on the relationship between the environmental knowledge of the Krobo tribe and their management of fallow areas on degraded forest land are discussed. Coverage includes the Krobo farmers' knowledge of fallow plants, weeds and weed associations, their farming methods and habitat management strategies, constraints imposed by poor weeding technology and socio-economic issues, and implications of local knowledge for the development of agroforestry research.
