Describes a laboratory study of the destructive distillation of the wood of Mansonia altissima, Piptadeniastrum africanum and Celtis mildbraedii. Data on the yield of charcoal and of other distillation products, and on some of the physico-chemical properties of the products, were established for given conditions of distillation and are tabulated. The most suitable temperature for producing ordinary charcoal with the best combination of yield and physico-chemical properties was determined.
