This research is an attempt to study: 1. the effect of Urea and Amina-G application on N-available and N-uptake; and 2. the optimum rate of Urea and Amina-G combination for hot pepper. The research was conducted in Karangploso, Malang, from June to October 2001, using factorial randomized block design, with 2 factors, 16 treatments, and 3 replicates. Urea and Amina-G increase total N, ammonium and nitrate content in the soil. Of these three components, only nitrate which significantly affects on N-uptake and the yield. Optimum rate of Urea and Amina-G has not yet reached. If we compare Urea and Amina-G with the same rate of N, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) of Urea is higher than Amina-G, meaning that Urea application is more efficient than Amina-G application. Amina-G application, however, gives higher yield than Urea application. This short-term positive impact of Amina-G still need further research, to test whether Amina-G is save for environment in a longer time
