Potato as a short-duration crop fits well in multiple cropping systems. Consequently, potato finds its place in a variety of cropping systems followed in different parts of the country. Moreover, it has a potential to produce more food per unit time and land area. Introduction of short-duration potato Kufri Ashoka and Kufri Chandramukhi has further aided in intensification of cropping systems in plains. Development of early, medium and late-season varieties of rice, wheat, maize, etc. has made it possible to grow them at different times of season and fit them according to requirement in a number of cropping systems.
