Sound velocity in the fiber direction of Douglas-fir wood specimens was measured in the moisture content region above the fiber saturation point. We discuss the influence of the parallel structure of earlywood and latewood on the sound velocity in whole wood in the fiber direction. The sound velocity in specimens with a pair of earlywood and latewood lamellae was almost the same as in latewood specimens. Young's moduli obtained using the sound velocity method can be corrected with the ratio of earlywood to latewood sound velocity, the densities of earlywood and latewood, and the latewood percentage.
