Summary It is important to grasp the moisture content of compost in the case of controlling the quality of compost. With the Amplitude Domain Reflectrometry (ADR) method used now, measurement on real time is possible. However, measurement accuracy by the ADR method falls in a sample with much moisture content and high electric cond, uctivity. The fact becomes a problem in the case of measuring the compost which uses livestock waste or a kitchen garbage as materials. Recently, the near-infrared spectroscopy was made into basic technology, the measurement equipment which adopted the two wavelength light emitting diode (LED) as the light source was developed. Then, it examined whether this method could be used as the measurement method of the moisture contained in the compost. When the compost such as livestock waste or kitchen garbage were made applicable to the examination, correlations were accepted between the amounts of moisture measured by this method and the heat-dry one. In the case of the big and rough or heterogeneous samples, variation was large to measured value. Although there was a room of the improvement from now on, it was thought that this moisture sensor which made the LED the light source was effective as real-time moisture measurement technology of compost.
