This paper is about global trends in land degradation, deforestation, genetic resource erosion and the loss of indigenous knowledge which indicate an urgent need for the conservation of forest genetic resources (FGR). Reconciling development with forest conservation has become one of the most important elements when dealing with FGR conservation. While forests and trees provide goods and services that are necessary for them to meet future and present demands.
