Consumption of fuel is one of the most essential characteristic features of automobile operation from the point of view of the consumer, i.e., the owner of the automobile as well as from the point of view of effective usage of the automobile. The economy of fuel is especially important in the period of time when the world's fossil fuel resources decrease and alternatives for traditional fuels are being searched for. One of the fossil fuel substitutes is biofuel, for example, rape methyl ester. The article researches in and analyses the consumption of fuel of automobiles carrying out experimental investigations and using different composition fossil fuel and biofuel mixtures. The experiments have been carried out on the road with an automobile having 1.6 litre diesel motor with injection of fuel into the prechamber. The optimal mixture considering the consumption of fuel is 5% admixture to fossil fuel giving the consumption of fuel 3.38 kg/h with the speed 90 km/h.
