Effect of different seed rates on the varietal performance of mungbeanunder dryland conditions
2000
Kaleem, S.A.
Four seed rates of 10,20,30 and 40 kg/ha were used and five mungbeanvarieties NM-92, MN 19-19, NM121-25 N/41 and local were used. The experimentwas laid out in Random of Complex Block (RCB) design using split plotarrangement. Varieties were kept in main plot white seed rates were kept insubplots. Subplot size was 4x1.8 m. Row to row distance was kept 30 cm. Daysto emergence was not affected by either seed rates or varieties. Emergenceper m2 was significantly effected by seed rates. The number of plants permeter square was high as compared with low seed rates. Effect of varieties onemergence was not significant. Days to flowering were significantly reducedwith, increase in seed rates. Varieties had no significant effect on days toflowering. Days to maturity were also significantly reduced with increase withrates. Lower seed rates took more days white higher seed rates took less dayto maturity. Varieties had also significant effect on days to maturity. VarietyNM121-25 took lesser days to maturity as compared with other varieties.Number of pods per plant significantly reduced with increase in seed rates.Varieties had also significant effect on number of pods per plant. Mungbeanvariety NM121-25 had produce more pods per plant is compared with othervarieties. Low seed rates of 10-kg/ha bad produced more number of grainsper pod. Number of grains per pod decreased with increase in seed rate.Varieties had also significantly affected the number of grains per pod. VarietyNM121-25 had produced more number of grains per pod than the othervarieties. Low seed rate of 10 kg/ha had produced the pods with greaterlength as compared with other seed rates. Variety NM121-25 had producedsignificantly pods with greater lengths. The number of plants harvested/7.2m2unit area increased significantly with increase in seed rates. The effect ofvarieties on number of plants harvested was not significant. Shatteringpercentage increased with increase in seed rates. Variety N/41 had significanthigher shattering percentage. Plant height significantly increased withincrease in seed rates. Varieties had no significant effect on plant height.Higher seed rates had more biological yield as compared with low seed rates.Varieties had no significant effect on biological yield. Seed rate of 20 kg/hagave maximum grain yield followed by kg/ha seed rate. While higher seed rateof 40 kg/ha gave the minimum grain yield. Variety NM121-25 gave maximumgrain yield while mungbean variety N/41 gave minimum grain yield. 1000 grainweight decreased with increase seed rate. Varieties had also significantlyaffected 1000- grain weight. Variety NM121-25 produced minimum 1000-grainweight and minimum 1000-grain weight was produced by variety N/41. Lowseed rate of 10 kg/ha gave the maximum harvest under followed by 20 kg/haseed rate while minimum harvest index was given by the higher seed rate of40 kg/ha. Mungbean variety NM121-25 grave the maximum harvest index whilevariety N/41 gave the minimum harvest index.
