On three milk farms situated in the area of Central Pomerania (north Poland) research was carried out on mineral deficiency and imbalance causing health and productivity disorders in cows. The levels of Ca, P, Mg, Na, and K were assessed in the trophic system, from soil through vegetation to blood serum and hair. The soils in Pomerania contain low levels of P and Mg and medium or high levels of Ca, Na, and K. Bulky feeds produced locally, due to their mineral content, cause mineral deficiency and imbalance in dairy cattle. Lowered or very low levels of P and Mg in blood serum and hair of dairy cattle reflected their poor level in soil and feed
