Effect of different cultivation systems on the number and composition of weed seedbank

In a field experiment estabilished in 1993 on a good rye soil complex, the effects of three different soil tillage systems applied on crop rotation, on weed species composition, number and distribution of weed seeds have been studied. In the years of 2000-03 soil samples were taken from three layers after harvest winter wheat, last crop in rotation. A total number of 28 weed species (included 24 of annuals) were recorded. The highest number of weed species (26)were in plough tilled soil. In all the tillage systems the greatest number of 64,122 seeds square m was recorded in the topsoil
