Effect of different factory farm systems of gilts rearing on development of reproductive system and reproductive performance and some parameters of blood and bones
2001
Gajewczyk, P.
Investigations were performed on 256 female pigs - hybrids on "Bristol" type factory farms. 16 animals as weaner piglets were slaughtered at the start of research and blood, 6th rib and right thighbone were collected for examination. 240 weaner gilts were divided into 4 subgroups: due to mineral feeding and due to system of housing management. Experiment had 2 phases: 1st phase lasted to first pregnancy, 2nd phase concerned sow reproductive performance and piglets rearing results during 4 cycles of reproduction. At the fiftieth day of the 1st pregnancy and after completing 4th lactation 6 animals from each subgroup were slaughtered and reproductive system, blood, 6th rib and right thigbone were collected examination. Blood was collected during production life of sows while barren, pregnant and lactating. Chemical and physical evaluation of bones was performed Ca and P content by 50 percent in the daily ration decreased feed consumption what influenced significantly daily gains of replacement gilts. Positive effect of mineral enriched diet anf forced exercise in subgroups of replacement gilts was noted in chemical and physical properties of bones and in piglets rearing performance. Abnormalities in histological structure of proximal head of thighbones in weaner gilts and primiparous sows in the 50th day of preganancy were found. The most stable level of Ca, P and Mg in blood serum was observed in sows which were reared as gilts without accass to paddocks and on feed enriched in Ca and P by 50 percent
