Chemical specification of Makham-pom fruits

Nineteen samples of Makham-pom fruits, purchased from different traditional drugstores in Bangkok and Nonthaburi during February 1989 to January 1992 were analysed compared to the authentic samples from Chanthaburi botanical garden. The appropriate specifications of this crude drug were proposed i.e. ash content not more than 4 percent, acid-insoluble ash content not more than 1 percent, loss on drying not more than 9 percent, water-soluble extractive not less than 26 percent, ethanol-soluble extractive not less than 16 percent and tannins content not less than 20 percent w/w. Moreover, its chemical identification was also given.
