Chemical fertilizer usage and potential of mungbean production in clay soils in Nakhon Sawan and Phetchabun province

Effect of chemical fertilizer on mungbean yield in clay soils were studied at farmer field(5 locations) in Nakhon Sawan and Phetchabunprovince in 1999 and 2000, respectively. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with 2 replications. Treatment consisted of 6 rates of phosphate fertilizer which were 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, kg P2O5/rai and 5 rates of potash : 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 kg K2O/rai Mungbean variety Chainat 36 was grown at a spacing of 50*20 cm 2 plant/hill with a pot size of 3*6 m and harvested area 2*4 m. Result from the experiment showed that there were no statistically significant difference in mungbean growth and yield as the effect of phosphate and potash fertilization. A survey data on mungbean production at farmer fields were investigated in 1999 and 2000. Result showed that the soil at survey sites were brown-black clay soil which moderate-high fertile. Farm cultural practice for mungbean production were broadcasting seed with no rhizobium inoculation, a few of chemical fertilization and 1-4 plant protection were observed. In Nakhon Sawan province mungbean var. Chainat 36 was grown in early and late monsoon season in March-April and August, respectively, the mean seed weight were 146-267 and 118-178 kg/rai, respectively. Meanwhile in Phetchabun province mungbean var. Chainat 36 and Chainat 72 were grown after maize in late monsoon season (August-September) the average yield was 130-190 kg/rai.
