Evaluation and validation of CERES-BARLEY growth under plant densities was conducted in the irrigated upland area at Lampang Agricultural Research and Training Center, Lampang. Design of the experiment was split plot with 4 replications. Plant density (600, 300, 100 and 50 plants per square meter) was main plot and barley cultivar (BRB.2 and BRB.9) was sub-plot. It showed that the effect of plant density was more profound after heading stage more than vegetative stage of growth. Increasing plant density had much more effect on spikes per square meter particularly under different plant densities. On the results demonstrated that the model simulated growth of different plant densities satisfactory of both BRB.2 and BRB.9. It provided that it was sensitive on spike emergence date, days to maturity, number of grain per spike, grain weight, harvest index and grain yield. However, further study on nitrogen partitioning of barley and sub-model in response to climate change could be closely estimation of grain yield. Consequently the model could be used to forecast yield potential as well as provide the better mangement strategies for barley crop.
