This experiment examined the effect of different carbohydrate sources on albino catfish fingerlings (Pangasius sutchi) raised in cages. Fingerlings were fed on 4 diet formulars; (isoprotein, 30 percent) using alpha-starch, corn, glutious rice and broken rice as the carbohydrate sources over a duration of 6 weeks. The results showed a significant difference in growth (weight average, length average) (P0.05). Fish fed with alpha-starch exhibited the highest growth, exhibiting significant differences in growth rate, specific growth rate and survival rate between these fish and those fed corn, glutinous rice or broken rice. However there was non significant difference between the alpha-starch and broken rice treatments in regards to both specific growth rate and survival rate.
