[Development of root system of apple trees in dependence of planting construction]

The development of root system of the apple varieties "Idared" and "Delbard Estival", grafted on the rootstock M9 at the planting density from 1586 to 4542 trees/hectare was studied. It was established that the root system mass and length increase by 36.0-52.4% at sparser planting (3.5 x 1.8 m) in comparison with denser planting (3.5 + 1 + 1) x 1.2 m. The maximal values of root system development (length, mas) were marked in the soil layer 0-40 cm. The density of roots gradually decreases from a tunk to the middle part of alleys
