Protein and oil content stability of soybean genotypes

During 2004, a study was carried out to determine the stability abd adaptability of protein and oil contents of NS varieties in a network of large-plot trials. Differences in seed protein and oil contents were observed among the varieties and locations. Due to the large influence of environmental factors on protein and oil synthesis, the genotypes differed with respect to stability of their chemical grain composition. Although a high negative correlation existed between protein and oil contents, some of the genotypes had increased levels of both. Genotypes with above-average stability of both of the traits under study were observed as well.
