Retention as an integral part of the sewerage system

The development of sewerage systems, due to rapid urbanization and higher living standards, requires very high capital investment and optimal solutions through a holistic approach and an accurate assessment of both the existing and newly designed sewer networks. Retention is a component of the sewerage system which may lead to the desired solution and at the same time significantly reduce capital costs. The retention facility in Zemun Block 9B, and that designed for Mali Mokri Lug (1991 and 2005 projects), both integral parts of Belgrade sewerage system, are presented as examples of the significance, position and role of retention facilities.
