Improvement of the Belgrade sewer system performance, necessitated by increasing urbanization, calls for more precise assessment of water balance in the system. In this respect, three raingauge stations are established by the Belgrade Waterworks and Sewerage on the pilot catchment of the sewer pumping station Cukarica. Data collected from these stations, in addition to the official rainfall observations by Meteorological Service of Serbia, should provide better basis for analysis of rainfall temporal and spatial distribution over the catchment and consequently for analysis of storm water distribution to the total drainage from the catchment. The paper focuses on the experiences from the first phase of this project related to the choise of measuring equipment, its preliminary testing, choice of measurement locations and installation of the equipment.
