In Alumina plant in Podgorica, Montenegro (Serbia and Montenegro), red mud from producing process before lay down on disposal site, because large viscosity, to add industrial water (about 10-15% from amount of dry red mud), with what to enlarge fluently and to facilitate transport until disposal site. Inadmissible contents of water, as large contents of alkali contribute more quickly penetration pollutants in the groundwater. The aim of this study was to investigate the quality of the liquid phase from the red mud disposal site and after that water from red mud disposal site treated, so that it could discharge into recipient (River Moraca, Montenegro) or recirculation to aluminium production process. Treatment of liquid phase achieved the following: 1) reduction of environment pollution, and 2) reduction of raw water consumption, which contributed to the preservation of this major environmental resource.
