There were tested 14 transgenic lucerne lines with modified lignin content and they were compared to the standard in Bulgaria - variety Prista 2. Biochemical analysis were made in 33 samples of diseased amd healthy roots of transgenic lines. The quality of total phenols (TF), protein nitrogen, magnesium and phosphorus increased and the quality of aqua soluble carnohydrates (ASC) and saponines decreased in the diseased roots of transgenic modified plants. The investigated transgenic lucerne lines are less attacked by root rot. The plural correlation between the root rot rate and the biochemical characteristic of the healthy roots showed that there is a middle correlations (r=0.33-0.66) between the qualities of protein N, ASC, TF and Mg. The relationship between the content of TF and the rate of root rot (r=0.60) in diseased plants is the same.
