Shelterbelts as the factor of ecosystem stability in south Banat [Serbia (Serbia and Montenegro)]

The subject of the research was the election of tree and shrub species for shelterbelt establishment concerning the soil and hydrological influence. Four types of sites were defined: dry, semidry, moist and halomorphic. Planed shelterbelts would be established on 2.62% of the total area of municipals of Opovo, Kovacica and Alibunar. About 25 species were recommended to satisfy mainly protective, but also some other functions (regulatory, gaming, bee-breeding, decorative etc.). The area under woods would be increased from 3.49 to 6.05%.
