The Ostrovo aquatorium is a water accumulation located north of the vilage of Melenci, Banat (Serbia and Montenegro). Its water table is regulated from the Banatska Palanka - Novi Becej canal which belongs to the main canal network of the DTD Hydro System. A smaller part of the aquatorium is used as fishpond, the larger part serves as watering hole for domestic animals. The natural plant cover in the riparian zone are saline pastures. Their flora includes 77 taxa (69 species, 5 subspecies, 2 varietis and 1 form). Twenty-four (31.17%) of these taxa have been characterized with the ecological index S+ and 53 (68.83%) with the ecological index S-. A postglacial relict Trigonella procumbens is characteristic from the florogenetic point, while a Pannonian endeme Statice gmelini subsp. hungaricum and a sub-Pannonian endeme Puccinellia limosa are characteristic from the plant geographic point.
