The goal of the work was to find and describe the effect of the shape and size of field plots on energy consumption of an agricultural operation (ploughing). The effect was expressed by a theoretical coefficient Ks and by the coefficient Ksp determined by a field-laboratory measurement. Both coefficients were calculated for seven different plots and compared. Fuel consumptions and machine performances were calculated with respect to plot sizes and shapes. The resulting relation was expressed as the dependence of the performance (ha/h) and consumption (L/ha or L/h) on the coefficient Ks. There are no significant differences between theoretical results and the results obtained by field-laboratory measurements. The influence of the field shape on the coefficient Ks decreases with increasing field size and becomes negligible for areas over 25 ha.
