The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of external conditions on the economy of agricultural enterprises and on their economic results, and to analyze the influence of the changed economic conditions after the accession of the Czech Republic to the EU on the economy of agricultural enterprises. In 2004, the average profit in CZK/ha of agricultural land per enterprise was 2,806 in production areas (PA) and 2,194 in less favoured areas (LFA). The number of enterprises showing a positive economic result, representing only 42% in 2003, rose to 94%. The volume of subsidies in CZK/ha of agricultural land represented 175% in PA and 239% in LFA of the 2003 volume.
