Biology of Ceroplastes ceriferus (Fabricius) (Hemiptera, Coccidae) and control trials [ornamental plants; Emilia-Romagna; Lombardy; Veneto]

Английский. Italian distribution, host plants, biology of Ceroplastes ceriferus are reported. This exotic species, pest of ornamentals, was incidentally introduced in Italy in 2001. It is the fifth species belonging to the genus Ceroplastes actually recorded in the Mediterranean area. Because C. ceriferus could represent a threat for ornamental plants, and possibly fruit crops, for the EPPO Region, it was included in the EPPO Alert List in 2003. Presently, C. ceriferus is established in three Northern Italy regions: Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna. The species develops one generation/year and overwinters as adult female. The period of presence of the different stages on the host plant, studied during 2002 and 2003, is reported. The fecundity of the females is influenced by the host plant. The average fecundity is 1,143.6 eggs/female on Magnolia stellata and 396 eggs/female on Laurus nobilis. Trials of chemical control against first instar nymphs with three different active ingredients (buprofezin, chlorpyrifos and mineral oil) gave good results

Per la sua potenziale dannosità a ornamentali e fruttiferi, la specie è stata inserita nella EPPO Alert List nel 2003. La specie risulta attualmente acclimatata in tre regioni (Lombardia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna). Compie una generazione annuale con svernamento sostenuto da femmine adulte. La fenologia dei diversi stadi è stata studiata per due anni consecutivi (2002-2003), allo scopo di individuare il periodo di presenza sulla pianta dei diversi stadi di sviluppo. La fecondità delle femmine è influenzata dalla pianta ospite. La fecondità media è pari a 1.143,6 uova/femmina su Magnolia stellata e 396 uova/femmina su Laurus nobilis. Prove di lotta chimica mediante impiego di tre diversi principi attivi (buprofezin, chlorpyriphos e olio minerale) hanno dato buoni risultati
