Occurrence and temporal distribution of atrazine and alachlor residues in surface and ground waters of irrigated maize-growing areas [Zea mays L.; Spain]

Английский. The impact of the use of atrazine-alachlor mixed formulations on surface and ground waters in irrigated maize-growing areas was studied. Twenty-three samples of water were studied, 13 ground and 10 surface waters, from irrigated areas of Salamanca province (Spain) devoted to maize growing. The first sampling was performed in May 1997, before application of the mixed formulation of herbicides. In these waters we determined the presence and, where appropriate, the levels of atrazine and alachlor by ELISA. Both herbicides were detected in all samples. Atrazine concentration ranged from 0.09-0.61 microng lE-1 in ground water to 0.11-15.2 in surface water, while alachlor concentration ranged from 0.05-0.32 microng lE-1 in ground water to 0.13-12.3 in surface water. The temporal evolution of concentration of both herbicides was studied between May 1997 and October 1998. The recharging (higher concentration) of atrazine in boreholes occurred in May 1997 and April 1998, approximately one year after application of the formulation, whereas the one of alachlor was faster, occurring in October 1997 and October 1998, i.e. four months after herbicide application. Atrazine and alachlor were in general present in surface waters throughout the study period, in parallel to the permanent presence of important amounts in soils adjacent to aquifers. Determination of alachlor and atrazine concentrations in 10 randomly selected samples of water by HPLC to validate ELISA highlighted the usefulness of the ELISA technique for this kind of studies

итальянский. [E' stato studiato l'impatto dell'impiego di formulazioni miste atrazina-alachlor sulle acque superficiali e sotterranee in aree coltivate a mais irriguo. Sono stati studiati 23 campioni di acque, 13 sotterranee e 10 superficiali, da zone maidicole irrigue della provincia di Salamanca (Spagna). Il primo campionamento è stato effettuato in maggio 1997, prima del trattamento con una formulazione mista dei diserbanti. In queste acque abbiamo determinato la presenza e, in caso positivo, i livelli di atrazina e alachlor mediante ELISA. Ambedue i diserbanti sono stati rinvenuti in tutti i campioni. La concentrazione di atrazina variava da 0,09-0,61 microng lE-1 nelle acque sotterranee a 0,11-15,2 in quelle superficiali, mentre la concentrazione di alachlor andava da 0,05-0,32 microng lE-1 nelle acque sotterranee a 0,13-12,3 in quelle superficiali. E' stata studiata l'evoluzione temporale della concentrazione di ambedue gli erbicidi fra maggio 1997 e ottobre 1998. La ricarica (maggior concentrazione) dell'atrazina nelle sonde si è verificata in maggio 1997 e aprile 1998, all'incirca un anno dopo il trattamento con il formulato, mentre quella dell'alachlor risultava più rapida, dato che si è verificata in ottobre 1997 e ottobre 1998, cioè quattro mesi dopo il trattamento. Atrazina e alachlor, in generale, sono risultati presenti nelle acque superficiali per tutto il periodo di studio, contemporaneamente alla presenza continua di quantità rilevanti dei due diserbanti nei suoli adiacenti agli acquiferi.
