Variation of photosynthetic pigment concentration and composition and their association with yield in irrigated wheat [Triticum aestivum L.; Triticum durum Desf.; Mexico]

Английский. Chlorophyll concentration increase and chlorophyll a/b ratio decrease have been reported to be associated with yield progress in wheat. Association between chlorophyll concentration and composition and potential yield was suggested by several AA. In the present study, twenty bread wheat and twenty durum wheat genotypes were grown under irrigated conditions, in a high light environment (North-West Mexico). Chlorophyll concentration, chlorophyll a/b ratio and nitrogen concentration were assessed at heading stage on the flag leaf. Durum wheat had, on average, higher chlorophyll concentration and lower chlorophyll a/b ratio than bread wheat. No correlation was found between these traits and grain yield of the bread and durum genotypes. A significant negative correlation was found between total chlorophyll concentration and chlorophyll a/b ratio in bread wheat, but not in durum wheat. These data do not support the use of chlorophyll concentration and composition as indirect selection criteria for potential yield in wheat breeding programs

[È stata riportata una possibile relazione fra l´aumento della concentrazione di clorofilla e la diminuzione del rapporto clorofilla a/b e il progresso della resa produttiva nel frumento. Numerosi autori hanno ipotizzato l´esistenza di un rapporto fra concentrazione e composizione delle clorofille e resa potenziale. Nel presente studio sono stati allevati 20 genotipi di frumento tenero e 20 genotipi di frumento duro in coltura irrigua, in un ambiente ad alta intensità luminosa (Messico Nord-Occidentale). Sono stati determinati la concentrazione della clorofilla a, il rapporto clorofilla a/b e la concentrazione di azoto allo stadio della spigatura nella foglia a bandiera. Il frumento duro presentava, in media, una concentrazione più elevata di clorofille e un rapporto clorofilla a/b inferiore rispetto al frumento tenero. Non è stata individuata alcuna correlazione fra questi caratteri e la resa in granella dei genotipi di grano tenero e duro. E´ stata trovata una correlazione negativa significativa fra concentrazione delle clorofille e rapporto clorofilla a/b nel frumento tenero, ma non nel frumento duro. Questi dati non forniscono alcuna base per l´utilizzazione della concentrazione e della composizione delle clorofille come criteri indiretti di selezione per la resa potenziale nei programmi di miglioramento genetico del frumento.]
