Since the end of the last century, the use of harvesters and processors in logging and cutting operations is increasing; their utilization can lead to a considerable improvement of productivity. However, high purchase costs represent an important limit to this machinery, which, in order to be amortized, needs to process large quantities of timber suited to the machinery and situated in accessible areas. As a consequence, the main evolutionary trend is the reduction of mass, space, etc. and the possible modularity of harvesting heads. In this regard, the present paper reports an initial survey of harvesting heads available for installation on tractors, including the ones not specific for the forestry sector
