Environmental (climatic, geo-pedological and vegetational) investigation of the coastal area between Punta Penna Grossa e Torre Guaceto (BR) [Apulia]

An environmental investigation has been conducted in the coastal area between Punta Penna Grossa and Torre Guaceto (Brindisi thermo-pluviometric station) with the purpose of defining the climatic, geologic, pedological and hydrological characteristics of the area and identifying the traits of plant communities. The surveys conducted have revealed that the area is characterised by the typical thermopluviometric pattern of the Mediterranean region, with precipitation mostly concentrated in Autumn-Winter and with Summer drought and temperatures (both in Winter and Summer) mitigated by the sea. As to the geologic characteristics, there are the "tufi" typical formations and, for the pedology, the "terre rosse" are prevailing. The hydrology of the area, like in nearly all Apulia, disappears in a complex underground water flow. The area seems to be well preserved and shows the typical vegetational groups of the dune succession, going landward from the sea: primary dune, moving dune, fixed dune and rear dune

E´ stato condotto uno studio ambientale per un tratto di costa tra Punta Penna Grossa e Torre Guaceto per definirne le caratteristiche climatiche, geo-pedologiche, idrologiche e dei popolamenti vegetali. Le osservazioni indicano che l´area è caratterizzata da un andamento termo-pluviometrico tipico dell´area mediterranea, con temperature mitigate dal mare. I "tufi", sono le formazioni geologiche tipiche e, dal punto di vista pedologico, prevalgono le "terre rosse"; l´idrologia della zona, come per la maggior parte della Puglia, scompare in una complessa circolazione sotterranea. L´area, ben conservata, presenta i gruppi vegetazionali tipici della successione dunale dal mare verso l´interno: duna embrionale, duna mobile, duna fissa e retroduna
