Agamic propagation of some species of the Mediterranean maquis

This note reports on some propagation trials conducted on Laurus nobilis L., Phillyrea latifolia L., Pistacia lentiscus L. and Rhamnus alaternus L., to identify the most appropriate period and system for cutting rooting. For L. nobilis, five cutting periods were compared: September, November, January, March, May; for P. latifolia, P. lentiscus and R. alaternus, six periods (the same as for L. nobilis plus July). For each species and period, apical and subapical cuttings, previously soaked for 1 hour into an IBA solution at the concentration of 5,000 ppm, were used and compared against a control. Results showed that L. nobilis has a higher rooting capacity as compared to the other species under analysis, whereas P. lentiscus showed a poor rooting ability. For L nobilis and P. lentiscus, the highest rooting percent was observed for the cuttings taken in January; for P. latifolia in September, for R. alaternus in July. As to the type of cuttings, the apical ones appeared to be better than the subapical ones for P. lentiscus and R. alaternus, indifferent for L. nobilis and P. latifolia. The IBA treatment induced an increase in rooting percent only in P. lentiscus and R. alaternus

Sono riferiti i risultati di prove di propagazione agamica per Laurus nobilis L., Phillyrea latifolia L., Pistacia lentiscus L. e Rhamnus alaternus L., per identificare il periodo e il sistema di radicazione più appropriato. Per l´alloro sono state confrontate cinque epoche di prelievo: settembre, novembre, gennaio, marzo, maggio; per l´illatro, il lentisco e l´alaterno sei periodi (gli stessi dell´alloro, più luglio). Per ogni specie ed epoca di prelievo, sono state utilizzate talee (apicali e subapicali), sottoposte preventivamente a un trattamento rizogeno a base di IBA alla concentrazione di 5.000 ppm per la durata di 1 ora, confrontate con una tesi di controllo. I risultati hanno messo in evidenza che l´alloro ha una capacità di radicazione maggiore rispetto alle altre specie studiate, mentre il lentisco ha presentato una capacità di radicazione limitata. Per alloro e lentisco l´epoca migliore di prelievo è risultata gennaio; per ilatro settembre, per alaterno luglio. La talea apicale ha dato risultati migliori per lentisco e alterno, quella subapicale per alloro; per ilatro non sono state osservate differenze.
