Reaeration coefficients were estimated from the amount of dissolved oxygen measured during the nighttime between upstream and downstream points along an experimental stream located in Kakamigahara-shi in the Gifu prefecture in Japan. Primary production and respiration were subsequently estimated for the daytime using the reaeration coefficients. The estimated values were considerably similar to those in previous researches, and the precision of our method was found to be satisfactory. However, the application of our method requires that the variation of the dissolved oxygen between the upstream and downstream fluctuates temporally, retention time between the two points should be short, and hydraulic characteristics along the longitudinal direction should be uniform. This method should be further analyzed for its effective application in the future.
