The filtration testing device was produced that could ventilate in sawdust as filtration materials and stir filtration materials. The present study investigates how repeated stirring filtration materials after sprinkling of pig waste water at 100L /m2/day on a 90cm-thick sawdust layer and filtering in the sawdust layer can remove water pollutants in pig waste water. The filtration was conducted for about nine months, and the average removal rates were 90.8 % for SS, 97.0% for BOD, and 59.6 % for NH4 - N + NOx - N. These removal rates became extremely high. The average temperature of filtration materials was about 34 deg C (16 to 64 deg C) and higher than atmosphere because aerobic microbes from pig waste water broke down organic matter in waste water. In this filtration system, SS, BOD and nitrogen were removed not only by physical but also chemical and biological filtration ability by increasing the sedimentation height of the filtration layer, ventilating into filtration materials and stirring the materials.
