Analysis on flow of circumference of artificial reef using CFD

Large number of artificial reefs were deployed in Japan. However, the aggregating mechanism of fish is not yet revealed. In this study, flow of circumference of artificial reef was analyzed by using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) to acquire the knowledge of aggregating factor. The results show that there are two patterns in flow of circumference of artificial reef. One is contracted flow at current velocity=0.05m/s and the other are slack water and eddy at current velocity=0.08m/s. The flow of circumference of artificial reef at the time of red sea bream aggregation is the former. Since red sea bream has rheotaxis such it from juvenile, it was suggested that the contracted flow formed at low current influenced the aggregation of red sea bream.
