A survey was conducted to identify the existing soil and water conservation practices of selected upland farmers in Wangal, Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya. Majority of the upland farmers are farming for 3-4 years. Most of them are male and are within the 45-54 years age bracket. Most (86.67%) of the farms under study are titled, 3.33% are tenanted and the rest are leased. Average farm size is 1.73 ha and 76.67% of the respondents have a farm area of 1.0 ha. Farm areas generally have less than 50% slope with medium fertilitystatus. Annual income ranged less than 50,000-75,000 per year and majority of the farms are accessible. Farmers cited terracing (83.37%), rock wall (20%) and mulching (13.33%)as means of reducing water loss and improving soil fertility status. Major farm-related problems include incidence of pests and diseases, insufficient irrigation/water supply, drought and decrease in productivity. Results show that demographic and farm-related variables have no siginificant correlation with the practice of soil and water conservation measures. Demographic and farm related variables, however, show a significant positive relationship with soil fertility status.
