The problems and economic evaluation of dairy production and its' selling in Lithuania

The problems of dairy production and selling in Lithuania are analysed in this paper. The changes of the number of cows, milk yield, as well as milk quality are analysed and evaluated in the paper. These are important factors influencing the state of dairy farms and possibilities of their modernization. After the research, according to the program by the firm "DeLaval" (applied in Sweden) the suitability of chosen dairy farms for the implementation of progressive milking systems has been evaluated. It has been determined during the research, which milking system (RTS, Tandem or VMS) is economically useful for the implementation on a particular farm, depending on the number of kept cows and the purchasing price of the milk
