Three-year pot experiment was conducted to study the effect of two levels of nitrogen fertilization and eight different crops preceding triticale on quality of the spring triticale grain. Thousand grain weight and the percentage of the plumpest grains in total yield were related more to the previous crop than to nitrogen rate. These two parameters were significantly higher when triticale was grown after binary mixtures involving triticale than when grown after itself. Triticale grown after triticale, mixtures with triticale and doubling of nitrogen rate had a positive influence on the content of protein in grain and on protein yield
