The effect of surface kneading of soil on its bulk density was examined in a model experiment. The tests were made on artificial profiles formed out of heavy loam formation with three levels of soil moisture: 17.1, 29.5 and 38.6 percent dry matter, the initial density being 0.82-0.98 g/cubic cm. Surface kneading was bringing about an increase of soil density in the 0-10 cm layer to a maximum value of about 1.25 g/cubic cm, irrespective of the soil moisture degree. Soil sealing was followed by increasing soil moisture as expressed in percentage by volume as well as by decreasing porosity
