Study on the suitable harvesting days to escape from the Phomopsis seed decay

Study on the soybean suitable harvesting days to escape from the Phomopsis seed decay was done on SJ.5 at Chiangmai Field Crop Research Center in wet season, 1998. Randomized complete block design with 4 replications and 5 treatments were used. The treatments were the differential harvesting days at R7, R7+5 days, R8, R8+5 days and R8+10 days. The artificial inoculation were done by spraying the spore suspension of the fungus, Phomopsis longicolla (about 500,000 spores/ml) at the fifth reproductive stage. After threshing, seeds were randomized and detected the disease infection by Blotter Test. The result showed that no seed infection by P. longicolla at R7 occured. The delayed harvesting days at R7+5 days, R8, R8+5 days and R8+10 days, the infection were increased about 5, 23, 35 and 65 percent, respectively. Harvest at R8+10 days, the lowest seed germination were recorded. Harvesting SJ.5 promptly at maturity (R8) is the best treatment to reduce loss because the biggest seeds size and the highest germination were produced. The lowest incidence of seed infection were found at R7+5 days, and there were no statistically difference between harvesting days at R7+5 days and R8.
