Microbial agents and insecticides application in cotton insect pests control

Study on controlling cotton insect pests was conducted at Nakhon Sawan Field Crops Research Center during 1997-1998. Five insect control treatments in the experiment were Heliothis armigera NPV (HaNPV, Department of Agriculture), Bacillus thuringiensis (Centari), HaNPV+sulprofos 72 percent EC (50+50 percent), Bt+sulprofos 72 percent EC (50+50 percent) and recommended insecticides (amitraz 20 percent EC + endosulfan 35 percent EC) compared with untreated. The result showed that the population of Thrips palmi and Aphis gossypii in all treatments were not significantly different. The number of Amrasca biguttula in recommended insecticides plot was lowest (2,016 individuals/20 plants) followed by Bt+sulprofos and HaNPV+sulprofos. To control Bemisia tabaci, all treatments were not effective. However, in 1997 the number of Heliothis armigera (major cotton insect pest) in recommended insecticides, HaNPV+sulprofos and Bt+sulprofos was not significant difference and had high efficiency. In 1998, the number of H. armigera were not significant difference among treatments. Furthermore, using recommended insecticides also gave the highest seed yield (347 kg/rai, 2-year averaged yield).
