European fallow deer (Dama dama L.) have always been welcome to the hunting grounds in the Warmia and Mazury District (Poland). However, it seems necessary to adopt and implement methods for their appropriate management. In the hunting season 2002/2003 the estimated population size in this region was 876 head; 99 fallow deer were harvested. Among them 24.24% were bucks, 45.46% does, and 30.30% fawns. Among the bucks harvested the age structure was as follows: group I - 45.83%, group II - 33.34%, group III - 20.83%, which does not comply with the standards and guidelines established. The fallow deer population in the Warmia and Mazury Province is not fully stabilized due to the fact that too many young bucks have been harvested by hunters
