Durante el año 1995 se condujeron ensayos para evaluar, en condiciones de laboratorio, diversas cepas del hongo entomopatógeno Metarhizium anisopliae para el combate de la bibijagua Atta insularis G. Los resultados obtenidos indicaron que la cepa MBA-1 de dicho entomopatógeno a las concentraciones de 1,35 x 10E7 y 10E8 conidios/ml, provocaron el ciento por ciento de mortalidad y el mayor número de insectos micosados, lo que demostró la acción patogénica de dicha cepa en comparación con el resto de las evaluadas.

Results showed that 1.35 x 10E7 and 10E8 conidios/ml of MBA-1 strains concentrations caused 100% mortality and the biggest number of insects covered with fungi which values significantly differed from the rest of evaluated strains, so the pathogenic action of this strain was demonstrated.
